2010 YORK FEDERAL FELLOWS

Mr. James DeBord, YorkCounts
James will attend the Leadership Effectiveness Seminar conducted at the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler School of Business. James believes that this seminar will help him better understand "what others are striving to achieve for their sector of the community and then work to encourage them to be leaders with a common purpose for the greater common community good." James will also attend the Green Mountain Writers Conference in Rutland, Vermont, where he looks forward to working with other professional writers and authors. These new relationships will help him "build on his own talents to effectively communicate a more beneficial story to others" as he continues to share YorkCounts' progress over the last four years and its plans for the future.

Mr. Jeffrey Myers, Penn State York Cooperative Extension, York County
Jeff will obtain training in the area of life skill coaching to work toward certification through iPEC, the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching in Washington, D.C., and Boston. The complete training is eight to nine months long and includes four three-day weekend face-to-face modules with additional teleconference training after each session. "My passion to support people in their lives is the underpinning of my career with Cooperative extension, first in Maryland and now in Pennsylvania," shares Jeff. "Supporting the lives of friends, family, and colleagues has always connected with my spirit, been a source of enormous energy and been a natural fit with many of my innate skills."

Ms. Stephanie Seaton, York City Human Relations Commission
Stephanie will attend the Social Justice and Mediation Institute at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. The Institute will further define the role of Advocacy in Social Justice to educate, and Mediation in Social Justice to bring reconciliation. Stephanie will re-energize at the Harmony House Personal Retreat and Healing in Sedona, Arizona. "Periods of practice and retreats are an essential part of maturation and growth as an agent of change," Stephanie says. Stephanie also will enhance her communications skills with a yearlong membership to The Communication Gym, which is a program that helps members enhance communications skills through "workouts" and "gymposiums." One of her desires is to learn how to build meaningful connections through networking. "I believe the goals I have set forth will help [the Human Relations Commission] to be better in the area of human relations and equal opportunity by giving better understanding and acceptance of equality for all," she says.
