2017 Annual Meeting

2017 Guest Speaker: Antoine van Agtmael, co-author of “The Smartest Places on Earth”, man who coined the term “emerging markets”, and board trustee of the Brookings Institution.
Mr. van Agtmael shared his insights on how rustbelt cities are becoming hotspots of global innovation by building stronger connections between business, higher education, and government.

Why?

YCCF is a catalyst, convener and funder for initiatives that create a vibrant York County. Our vision is a York county that is growing, prosperous and united with unsurpassed opportunities for everyone to thrive.

YCCF knows that quality high-quality education, a well-trained workforce and dynamic downtowns attract and retain employers. We work every day to strengthen these sectors so that York County residents thrive.

We have invited Mr. van Agtmael to visit York to spark conversations and generate ideas about York County’s future economy. He has studied many former industrial cities around the world to observe and document how they successfully transitioned to innovation hotspots. By sharing brainpower and collaborating among industry sectors to make things smarter and cheaper, these communities are transforming into leading competitors on the global market.

YCCF will introduce Antoine to York’s academic institutions, advanced manufacturing companies, and community leaders to share ideas about opportunities for York’s economy. The intent is to use lessons learned from similar communities to inform future economic development planning efforts here.
