ACORN FUNDS

Acorn Funds allow individuals and families to invest in the future of our community and build a charitable legacy. Plant a seed in our community and watch it grow! Acorn Funds provide an opportunity to grow a fund at the Community Foundation with a $1,000 initial investment. Grant recommendations begin once the fund reaches $10,000.

Highlights:
  • Acorn funds may be named to recognize the donor(s), a family member, friend, a particular cause, or for the benefit of one or more nonprofit organizations. You can also select a name for the fund that will ensure your anonymity.
  • YCCF can accept donations of almost any asset, including stock and real estate.
  • The minimum gift to establish an Acorn Fund is $1,000 with a 10-year build up period to reach the $10,000 level.
  • Once your fund reaches $10,000, you can recommend grants at any time of the year.
  • YCCF staff is available to help you learn more about groups that meet your needs.
  • Through Acorn Funds, you can engage family members in learning more about their community and groups addressing community issues.
  • Acorn funds are established as endowments (ensuring that grants are made in perpetuity) with flexibility for spending beyond the 4.5% spending rule with a minimum balance.
  • You can involve your family in charity at any time-and allow them to advise grants from the fund into the future
