History
The Endowment was created at the Foundation in December, 2001, with a $2 million payment from Glatfelter of Spring Grove, PA, as part of a consent decree settling litigation. A committee of respected business, environmental and civic leaders has been appointed to lead projects supported by the Endowment. The primary goal is to protect and improve the Codorus Watershed. In 2008, the Foundation began collaborating with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay to improve the water quality of all watersheds in York County.
What the Codorus Watershed Project has done so far:
- Over 1,500 feet of stream banks have been stabilized
- Improvements completed or underway to Poor House Run, Mill Creek, Barshinger Creek, Hollow Creek Tributary, South Branch Codorus Creek, Tyler Run, East Branch Codorus Creek, Willis Run and others.
- Over $1 million in funds secured for York County stream projects
- Educational workshops held for landowners and municipal officials
- Foundry Park improvements completed in the City of York
Why is watershed management so important?
- Unstable streams impact drinking water, harm aquatic wildlife and pollute local waters.
- Tough new regulations will require all stakeholders to change how we care for our water resources.
What we can do for you:

- Identify and access financial assistance for restoration projects
- Educate communities about the importance of watershed management
