HERITAGE FUNDS

Charitable organizations building endowments through our Heritage Funds program benefit from the Community Foundation's investment management and endowment building services. Donors who wish to ensure an ongoing gift to these organizations are encouraged to contribute to the funds at any time, in any amount.


ACCESS-York Endowment Fund (1995)
Dedicated to the elimination of domestic violence, ACCESS-York provides shelter and services to victims and education and prevention services to our community. Growing out of the Dallmeyer Family Fund established by Donald C. and Janet Dallmeyer, the Fund serves to strengthen and assure the future work of ACCESS-York.

The Arc of York County Endowment Fund (1994)
Since 1952, The Arc of York County (formerly the Association of Retarded Citizens) has provided support and services for children and adults with mental retardation and other disabilities. Programs span the needs of a lifetime including community education and advocacy support, recreation and camping, employment services, and travel training.

Atkins House Endowment Fund (1998)
Atkins House, founded in 1975, is a residential and outpatient treatment center for women offenders. This Fund will assure the continuation of programs that provide information, skill development and ongoing support and counseling services to women offenders that allow them to remain crime-free, drug-free and employed.

Bell Socialization Services Endowment Fund (1998)
This Fund to help secure the future of Bell Socialization Services was established with gifts from the Nicholas H. and Margaret H. Carlozzi Charitable Foundation and Dr. and Mrs. Nicholas Pandelidis. The Fund benefits homeless parents and children receiving emergency shelter in Bell Family Shelter and individuals and families served by Bell's Mental Health and Mental Retardation programs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Endowment Fund (1999)
This endowment, established with gifts in memory of Raymond H. Wright III, Naomi Buckingham and John M. Pacholok, will help secure the future work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of York. The Big Brothers Big Sisters program, which matches a BIG (adult volunteer) with a LITTLE (child 5-13 years old) from a single parent household, is as elementary as putting a friend in a child's life and as essential as putting hope in a child's future.

Byrnes Health Education Center Endowment Fund (2000)
This endowment, created by a gift from Nancy and Paul H. Keiser, enables the Susan P. Byrnes Health Education Center to fulfill its mission of promoting healthy lifestyles through education. The Center provides dynamic and interactive health education programs that inspire healthy choices to schools, businesses and community groups.

Children's Home of York Endowment Fund (1994)
The Children's Home of York is a not-for-profit organization offering diagnostic, residential, counseling, adoptive and foster care services to meet the increasing needs of troubled children and their families living in York and surrounding communities. The Agency operates three group homes, a girls' center and an emergency shelter, serving more than 1,000 children and families a year who suffer from problems associated with child abuse, neglect and emotional disturbance.

Church Women United in York County Endowment Fund (2001)
Church Women United in York County established this endowment with a gift from the Dorothy Mae Keener Estate. The local unit of the national Church Women United, which brings Christian women together for worship, fellowship and social action, supports local organizations and projects that promote justice, education, family well-being and empowerment of women and their children.

Crispus Attucks Association Endowment Fund (1993)
The endowment helps ensure the availability of services provided by Crispus Attucks, a multipurpose community center enabling residents to improve their quality of life. Services include child care, employment training and placement, affordable housing, drug abuse prevention for youth, fitness and recreational activities, senior citizens' programs and educational classes.

Cultural Alliance of York County Endowment Fund (2002)
Through the generosity of Robert and Donna Pullo, the Cultural Alliance established this Fund to encourage others to join with them to build an endowment to assure that the arts will continue to flourish in York County for generations to come. The Fund supports the Cultural Alliance's work to provide operational dollars and technical assistance to its members, to encourage collaboration among them and to foster their organizational health.

Easter Seals Endowment Fund (1998)
For 75 years, Easter Seals has been making small and big dreams come true for local people with disabilities. The Fund will enable Easter Seals to continue its mission to help people with disabilities to live with Equality, Dignity and Independence. Income will provide seed money for new and innovative programs.

Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County Endowment Fund (2000)
The Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County Endowment Fund was created by a gift from Nancy and Paul H. Keiser. Working with landowners, the Trust preserves farmland and natural lands in York County by implementing conservation easement agreements. The Fund supports the Trust's preservation work, programs, and operations.

ForSight Vision Endowment Fund (1994)
Since 1932, the York County Blind Center has been meeting the specialized needs of community members who are blind or visually impaired. Programs and services are designed to prevent blindness through vision screenings and restore independence through rehabilitation and employment opportunities.

Glatfelter Memorial Library Fund (1995)
Organized in 1937, the Spring Grove Free Public Library had four locations before moving to its permanent facility in 1992. Renamed the Glatfelter Memorial Library, it was built with help from the Julia Sprenkle Estate, P.H. Glatfelter Co., state and municipal governments and the community. Eight thousand cardholders benefit from its programs, services and learning materials.

Bill Goodling Teacher Scholarship Fund (2002)
This fund supports a scholarship foundation that hopes to raise a $1 million endowment to assist students from York, Adams and Cumberland counties who are preparing for a teaching career. It was created to recognize a native son's dedicated service and leadership in education and government. Mr. Goodling was a teacher and school administrator for 22 years and represented the 19th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for thirteen consecutive terms until his retirement.

Greater York Center for Dance Education (2005)
Greater York Center for Dance Education established this fund to assure that dancers of all ages will have the opportunity to excite their heart, mind, soul and spirit through dance. By meeting the challenges of classical dance in a caring and motivating atmosphere, students build self-esteem through positive feedback and find themselves better prepared for life's endeavors.

Hanover Hospital Endowment Fund (2007)
This fund was established by the Hospital as part of the Hanover Endowment Building Initiative. The Foundation offered a matching grant to the hospital for endowment benefiting the greater Hanover community. This fund will support community health programs.

Homewood Foundation Endowment Fund (2004)
The Homewood Foundation established this Fund to provide an opportunity to York County residents to provide for those who need a little financial support to continue to live at Homewood with dignity. The Fund benefits residents of Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover. Homewood Retirement Centers' mission is to provide compassionate, professional and caring service and enhance the quality of life for residents, clients and co-workers.

Jessica and Friends Community Endowment Fund (2002)
This Fund was established with a gift from Louise Brandt to assure the continuation of Jessica and Friends Community's services to those with disabilities. Founded in 1998 by Jessica's parents, Peter and Paulette Teague, the organization provides residential services, training in daily living skills and social services to adults with developmental disabilities in a faith-based setting.

Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania Endowment Fund (1994)
The endowment helps Junior Achievement educate and inspire young people to understand business and economics and be workforce ready. Junior Achievement provides financial literacy and career awareness programs to students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The addition of the Exchange City learning laboratory gives students the opportunity to apply what they learn in school to real-life situations.

Junior League of York Endowment Fund (1999)
The Fund was created to ensure the League many generations of continued success providing hands-on service and financial support for the York community. The Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Lancaster Theological Seminary Endowment Fund (1998)
This Fund was created to further the partnership forged with York County when the Seminary made its home in York in the early 1800s. It supports leadership development programs, as well as scholarships for York Countians studying at Lancaster Seminary. The Seminary, a graduate ecumenical institution of the United Church of Christ, has helped hundreds of York County men and women explore spiritual and vocational paths.

Leadership York Endowment Fund (1997)
Leadership York's mission is training young people and adults as community trustees to serve in voluntary leadership roles with nonprofit organizations, government (appointed and elected positions) and school-based organizations. Servant leadership is the basis for community leadership education. The Fund will help ensure the organization's long-term financial stability.

Leave A Legacy® York County Endowment Fund (2005)
The fund was created to support the programs, services and activities of Leave A Legacy York County, PA. This community awareness program is designed to promote charitable giving through lifetime gifts, wills or other estate plans, so individuals in York County can continue to care for their favorite charities/causes during their lifetimes and beyond.

Lehman Center of Children's Aid Society Endowment Fund (1994)
The Lehman Center is the only 24-hour crisis nursery in York County. The Center provides emergency day and overnight respite for children at risk for abuse/neglect, birth to 6 years of age; a 24-hour hotline for crises; art therapy for children; ongoing family advocacy via case management visits; and numerous support groups.

Logos Academy Endowment Fund (1999)
Logos Academy is a private urban Christian elementary school founded in 1998 to promote the development of inner city York children. The school combines a classical approach to education with small classes to maximize the intellectual, spiritual and social growth of its students. The Fund provides tuition assistance to place a superior education within the grasp of families whose potential exceeds their means.

Lutheran Social Services of South Central Pennsylvania Endowment Fund (1999)
Resources from the endowment support Lutheran Social Services in providing dignity and security for the lonely and vulnerable. Lutheran Social Services' ministries and services address the needs of old and young, the ill, the deaf and those experiencing crises with children, spouses or parents.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Central PA Endowment Fund (1995)
Make-A-Wish Foundation fulfills the wishes of medically qualified children, under age 18, who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. The Fund exists to assist in long-range financial stability to assure that the Make-A-Wish Foundation can continue to serve its mission. Income goes directly to program funding.

Martin Library Endowment Fund (1995)
The Fund supports the programs and services of Martin Library. Martin serves York and Adams Counties with a collection of more than 100,000 books, audio books, videotapes, and large-print materials. Public computers provide access to software and the Internet. The library also offers a variety of educational programs for adults and children.

Christa McAuliffe Scholarship Foundation Endowment Fund (1993)
The Christa McAuliffe Scholarship Foundation of York County was established following the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger in which Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher in space, was killed. Supported by public school teachers, administrators and the community, the McAuliffe Foundation provides scholarships to high school seniors pursuing a career in education.

The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund (2003)
Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's educational scholarship program helps Memorial Hospital to attract and retain well-trained nursing professionals so that patients can be assured of the highest quality care. Through its partnership with York County Community Foundation, Memorial Hospital and its Auxiliary hopes to build an endowment with gifts from others who share an interest in encouraging careers in nursing.

Mental Health Association Endowment Fund (1994)
The Fund supports the programs and services of the Mental Health Association, founded in 1951. The Association provides support services, advocacy and direct programs to people with mental illnesses and their families, as well as public educational programs on mental health topics and issues.

The Nicarry Child/Family Counseling Center of Children's Aid Society Endowment Fund (2002)
This endowment supports Nicarry Child/Family Counseling Center, a program of Children's Aid Society that provides outpatient child-centered counseling, with specialization in play therapy. Affordable and subsidized counseling and support services for children and adolescents, ages 2 - 18, also include family consultation, assessment of attentional disorders, group therapy and supervised visitation services.

Otterbein United Methodist Church (Mt. Wolf) Fund (1996)
The endowment, established with a gift from the William David Horner Estate, provides resources for the 500-member congregation to enhance its missions, ministry and property. The church is committed to building the Fund with additions of future gifts from others.

Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council Endowment Fund (1999)
Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council provides informal education to girls ages 5 to 17. Girl Scouting gives girls opportunities to develop integrity, honor and values by providing an environment where girls set goals and develop attitudes and skills that encourage success. The Fund will help ensure the organization's long-term financial stability.

Penn-Mar Organization Endowment Fund (1998)
The Fund was established to support Penn-Mar Organization in achievement of its mission to provide and promote quality services and programs for individuals with disabilities. Penn-Mar is committed to providing opportunities for choices in the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Planned Parenthood of Central Pennsylvania (2004)
Planned Parenthood of Central Pennsylvania (PPCP) believes that education focusing on healthy relationships is an essential part of an individual's growth and leads to responsible decision making throughout adulthood. While reproductive health and sexuality education is one of three cornerstones of its mission, PPCP has been providing medical care, advocacy and sexuality education to women and men in Central Pennsylvania for almost 70 years.

Preservation Pennsylvania Endowment Fund (1999)
The Fund will help Pennsylvania's communities and preservation organizations utilize historic resources to revitalize downtown areas and protect open space through funding for educational programs, special projects and advisory assistance. Preservation Pennsylvania is the Commonwealth's only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting historically and architecturally significant properties.

The Shadowfax Corporation Endowment Fund (1996)
The Shadowfax Foundation Endowment Fund (1994)

The Shadowfax Foundation Endowment Fund supports Shadowfax Corporation's work, which provides residential, training, employment, elderly activity programs and day support services to more than 350 individuals with disabilities on a daily basis. The Shadowfax Corporation Endowment Fund is the former RITC Endowment Fund, established prior to RITC's merger with Shadowfax Corporation.

St. John's 1755 Fund (2006)
The Vestry of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church created this fund to ensure the future of the congregation and its building and grounds. Gifts to this fund guarantee that this historic congregation, founded in 1755-not long after York County itself was founded, will continue in perpetuity. St. John's 1755 Fund celebrates the rich history of the congregation with an eye toward its future.

Stallman York Little Theatre Endowment Fund (1993)
York Little Theatre is a nonprofit participatory organization for adults, youth and children, providing live theatre and education for more than 65 years. YLT is a community theatre existing for the York community, by the York community and appreciative of its support from the York community. The Fund name honors the late George L. Stallman, Jr., a YLT founder and mainstay supporter.

Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center Endowment Fund (1994)
The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center presents live performances and cinema in its two restored historic theaters and encourages involvement in the performing arts through a broad variety of education and outreach activities and strategic alliances. Through research and attention to the interests of the community, the Center provides an extensive number of events that are welcoming to diverse audiences. This Fund supports Center operations and programs.

Susquehanna Waldorf School Endowment (2006)
The Susquehanna Waldorf School is an independent school rooted in the international movement and philosophy of Waldorf education. They provide a nurturing and challenging environment that inspires students to reach the highest levels of intellectual, spiritual, artistic and physical achievement. This endowment fund will ensure the perpetuity of the Susquehanna Waldorf School's academic and artistic pursuits.

Gretchen Wolf Swartz Scholarship Fund (2001)
This Fund supports the work of a foundation by the same name. In Gretchen's memory, the Fund rewards high school students in a basketball program with a postsecondary school scholarship. Fellow PIAA referees started this in 1999, and based on sportsmanship, select the award winning schools from which the annual scholarships are selected.

United Way of York County Endowment Fund (1994)
Annual campaign contributors are encouraged to perpetuate their annual pledge through a gift to this endowment. The Fund will support the United Way's mission to improve people's lives by building a strong community through financial generosity, volunteer commitment and civic engagement.

York-Adams Area Boy Scout Council Endowment Fund (2002)
Boy Scouts of America provides today's youth with experiences to help them achieve their full potential over their lifetimes by stressing family values, learning life skills and making ethical choices. Outdoor programs provide a memorable approach to character development, fitness and citizenship. This Fund has been established to build a growing endowment dedicated to instilling these values in today's—and tomorrow's—youth.

York Art Association Endowment Fund (2005)The story of the York Art Association begins with three visual artists and several businessmen coming together to exchange their artistic views and interests. One hundred years later, the organization has evolved into a vital organization providing opportunities to expand one's artistic skills or simply explore one's creativity through classroom instruction, workshops, lectures and exhibits. This fund was established to ensure the imaginative nature of artisans in Central Pennsylvania continue to flourish with an inspired spirit.

York County 4-H Futures Fund (2006)
This Heritage Fund was established by the York County 4-H Development Council as they look toward the future and plan for enhancements to their current programming. The fund was created for program support to encourage young people to become involved in the York County 4-H Clubs, so as to promote leadership, life skills and the dreams and ideals of participants.

York Benevolent Association Endowment Fund (2006)
The York Benevolent Association (YBA) was created in 1863 to assist the widows and orphans of Civil War soldiers. Today, YBA provides families across York County with food, household goods, school supplies, toys for children at Christmas, and emergency heating assistance. This Heritage Fund was created to perpetually support YBA's pursuit of its mission.

York County Chamber Foundation Fund (1997)
The Fund supports programs that foster educational development, academic initiative and a better understanding of the free enterprise system. The Fund supports programs that develop leadership in and cooperation among the governmental, educational, professional and business sectors in the local community.

York County Heritage Trust Endowment Fund (1995)
The Fund supports the work of York County Heritage Trust, an educational institution that uses its collections, historic sites and documentary resources to inspire people to explore the history and culture of York County. The Fund includes endowments established by The Historical Society of York County and the Agricultural and Industrial Museum of York County prior to their merger.

York County Honors Choir Endowment Fund (2005)
Longtime supporters, Bill and Judy Simpson, established this heritage fund to support the Honors Choir so that the voices of York County youth are heard for years to come.

York County Junior Golf Association Endowment Fund (2006)
The board of York County Junior Golf Association created this Heritage Fund for program support to encourage young people to become involved in the York County Junior Golf Association, and for scholarships to York County golfers who participated in the York County Junior Golf Association.

York County Libraries Second Century Endowment Funds
The Second Century Endowment Program is sponsored by York County Library System and Martin Library. Martin Library has provided “seed grants” for Funds in York County Community Foundation and challenge dollars to encourage library friends to help build the endowments with lifetime gifts and bequests.

    York County Literacy Council Endowment Fund (1993)
    The Fund is designated to support literacy programs, through the York County Literacy Council, enabling York Countians to become more self-sufficient and productive members of the community. Programs target reading, writing, English conversation and family literacy skills.

    York County Literacy Council Hanover Endowment (2007)
    This fund was established by the Literacy Council - Hanover with support from friends of the Hanover Guthrie Library. The Foundation offered a matching grant for endowment and this fund will forever support literacy programs and activities in Hanover.

    York County Parks Foundation Endowment Fund (1998)
    York County Parks is dedicated to preserving, protecting and acquiring public park lands. The system includes eight parks totaling 4,000 acres of open space. Four of the parks are the direct result of gifts to York County. This endowment assures the preservation and acquisition of additional natural areas for future generations.

    York Habitat for Humanity Endowment Fund (2000)
    This Fund was established in 2000 by Nancy and Paul H. Keiser, members of Habitat's Board, so that funds might always be available for the construction of houses for lower income families in York County. Houses are constructed or rehabilitated using volunteer labor, donated materials and donated capital.

    York Junior Symphony Endowment Fund (2005)
    This Fund was established through a gift from a Community Foundation donor advisor. It is the final fund to be established in ArtForever: an endowment initiative for the arts. This donation seeded the endowment and provides the organization with a means to grow their own endowment fund.

    York Rotary Endowment Fund (2000)
    Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. This endowment annually supports projects of local charities that focus on services to disabled, disadvantaged or abused children.

    York Symphony Endowment Fund (1998)
    Making sure our children grow up in a community that offers live classical music by a full, professional symphonic orchestra was the driving force for the creation of the York Symphony Endowment Fund. The York Symphony is committed to providing quality concert music for the enrichment of south central Pennsylvania's citizens.

    William and Cornelia Wolf Fund for York Symphony (May 2006)
    William T. and Cornelia W. Wolf created this new fund, as part of the York Symphony Endowment Fund family of funds, of Art Forever: An Endowment Initiative for the Arts. Cornelia shares, "we are pleased to provide an opportunity for wonderful music to flourish in York County by creating this fund for York Symphony."

    York Youth Symphony Endowment Fund (2005)
    This Fund was established so that the York Youth Symphony will assure high school students are provided the opportunity to play in a symphonic orchestra.

    YMCA of York and York County Endowment Fund (1993)
    An integral part of the YMCA's planned giving program, the Fund assists in building long-range financial stability to assure the YMCA of York and York County will continue to serve its Christian mission to the youth and families of our community.

    YWCA of York Endowment Fund (1994)
    The YWCA Fund supports programs that assist teen and Latino mothers, promote the healthy development of children, foster racial and cultural understanding and keep York County residents active and healthy. The YWCA is committed to building the Fund and is grateful for additional contributions.
